Dear colleagues and friends,
Hope April is off to a good start for you! Please join me in welcoming a
new member of the SSYCDS listserv, Dan SHAN. Below please find Dan's self
introduction. Welcome to our community!

Dan Shan received an M.A. in History from Fudan University and a
bachelor’s degree in Archaeology from Capital Normal University in
Beijing. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Art History at Rice University,
studying Buddhist art and visual culture in medieval China, with a
focus on paintings from Song and Yuan periods. Her dissertation,
“Drawing Connections: Models and Design Transfer from the Album of
Daoist and Buddhist Themes and Beyond,” is the first monograph to
examine comprehensively the album as a total system. This work attends
to conceptualize the significance of drawing by setting forth its
various roles in transmitting and transforming artistic knowledge from
China to other cultures, including Japan and Islamicate lands.

Sincerely,
Ya Zuo
Secretary, Society for Song, Yuan, and Conquest Dynasties Studies
