Dear Colleagues,

Cho Wonhee, another graduate student, has joined the listserv. This time,
I'll just quote:

I am currently a Ph. D. student in the history department of Yale
University, and here my graduate school adviser is Professor Valerie
Hansen. I have received my M.A. from the Asian History Department at Seoul
National University (South Korea), with a M. A. thesis titled "Yuan Tax
Exemption Policy in Religious Groups: Practice and Policy" (in Korean).

I am interested in the Yuan, especially not simply as one of Chinese
Dynasties but as a part of the whole "Mongol Empire" which covered the
whole Eurasian Steppe. Thus I am also interested in the Mongol rule of
Central Asia and the Middle East, and both consider myself as a Chinese
historian but also as one interested in Central Asia. I hope (as I am
still working on my language for Persian and Arabic) to cover more than
simply the Yuan dynasty for my Ph.D. dissertation, but I still have not
decided exactly how much I can do with my interest, limited time, and
language capabilities.

Michael
